What is Sin?

According to Paul sin is a thing (Noun) within you but that it is not YOU, but when followed it becomes a willful action (Verb) YOU allow.

But I see a different law in the parts of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of sin in the parts of my body.”  Romans 7:23

You see sin is not YOU and it is not your BODY so stop being so hard on both, it is a force that resides within your Body which grows in power as you focus on it.  I want you to see the triangle here Body, Soul, Sin, this is for lack of a better word a trinity of the fall of Mankind.  These three need to cooperate in order for sin to take shape and be expressed into the world in all its manifested forms.

We see here also a kind of circle of life where I sin and then feel bad because the Law convicts me and then demands that I be perfect.

For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, You shall not covet. 8 And sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind. For apart from the law sin is dead. Romans 7:7-8

So the Law although True and Good becomes nothing more than the nagging friend who always says “I told you so.”  Paul teaches that in fact the Law can not help in getting you out of this four cornered “Gotcha BOX” of LAW, SOUL, BODY and SIN.

At best you go down the

“I promise not to do that again”

“Whats the use I’ll never change”

“Lets eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die”

The Oaths the Law produces as Jesus teaches are for spiritual imposters and hopeless people.  You see the Law was put into effect because of the sin, but it has no power to help, so it in fact becomes part of the problem.

Once I was alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. The commandment that was meant for life  resulted in death for me. Romans 7:9-10

So you might ask what must I do Pastor to get past this dilema?

Ok here we go, you have to add two things in your life, in order to replace SIN and LAW.  Not that they are going anywhere in this life, but they don’t deserve the attention of your life energy.

Let me let you in on a little secret YOU are not a SINNER!

REVOLUTION, Peacemakers rise up!

Globally we see the young and those young at heart, struggling against the language of Empire and Warfare, “they shall study war no more” is a growing HEARTS desire.  Those who hold the reigns of power and control in this world have made a handsome living off the Language of Empire and Warfare, this includes many small (s) spiritual leaders I am sad to say.  It made a kind of sense in a world disconnected and ruled by the prevailing power of the age, Babylon, Greece, Rome, America but a smaller planet requires a different paradigm.  A Peacemakers Mentality is needed or rather an embrace of the language of mediation, peace making, open community and shared need and vision.   Which starts as did our Constitution here in America with the radical non Empire concept “We The People” and no a Corporation is not a person!  Notice how the Language of Empire and Warfare keeps us from talking to our neighbor, what’s mine is mine, and what’s yours is yours, until I need it.  Religion is no saint in this matter either, with other people being an infidel or someone who must be converted after repeating the religious words of Empire and Warfare. at the edge of a real or metaphoric sword, “Onward Christian Soldier.” The language of Empire and Warfare is in a struggle with the language of Buddha, Jesus, Gandhi, Rumi, Martin, John, Gene Sharp to name a few and it’s loosing.  Not for lack of sincere effort by the sellers of Empire and Warfare, but WE The People have discovered they can talk to each other WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION, and the other guy is not the monster they were led to believe but a brother and sister all.  The Sermon on the Mount and the principles of non-violence, and the brotherhood of man, are a growing desire of a restless youth, this is the place where you call me a socialist or communist.  Point of Truth:  “There is enough for everybody, but not enough for a few that want it all.”  Look in this world we are all unique and interesting but “Empire Exceptionalism” is a game played by those who desire what Others have, to be their Manifest Destiny.  So in the course of human events when people find themselves under the tyranny of Empire and Warfare, they can choose a new Way and do it without using the tools of Empire and Warfare.  It is not the language of the Koran or it’s more radical interpreters, that the young people of the Middle East are hearing in their ears, but rather the ideas expressed in the words of Gene Sharp and many others throughout the Ages.  “TO BE CONTINUED” The internal spiritual life and the implications of  a Peacemakers Mentality.

Must Analyze

Ok some of you will remember Season 2 and Episode #32 of Star Trek “The Changeling” The crew of the Enterprise deals with Nomad—an indestructible, planet-destroying space probe that thinks Kirk is its creator.  Nomad has a mission of purging the universe of anything that is not perfect, it does this by analyzing until it finds an imperfection and then destroys the organism.  In the end it is its need to Analyze and Purge what is not perfect, that leads Nomad to destroy its self, the last words of Nomad are ” Must Analyze, Must Analyze”.  May I say we need to “Stop Analyzing, Stop Analyzing” or we will end up like Nomad destroyed for the myth of perfection, this way of thinking has infected every level of our thinking.  The Jewish book of Genesis describes in story the moment where this black and white kind of thinking began, with Adam and Eves abandonment of the “Process of Good”, for the deception of “Perfection” (Godhood).  Making a return every year is not natural and looking for the problems that keep us from utopia is the waste of time that leads to destruction.  I see this infection in spiritual circles as well, people always dissatisfied and looking for SIN and the “Yellow Brick Road”!  Could we all Stop Analyzing the Good thing to death, and start caring for what is Good and in need of our attention.  Let us look for “The Ways” to live at peace with what is and to love the Good that surrounds us, taking God at His word that it is Good.
