Calvin & Job (The Great Debate)

Job:  The Lord gives and The Lord takes away blessed be His name.

Calvin:  You are absolutely correct Job for God is Sovereign.

Job: I am blameless and upright before my God.

Calvin: I’m sorry Job but you do err in not knowing how to rightly divide the word.

Job:  What word are you talking about Calvin.

Calvin:  The word of God starting with the book of Genesis and proceeding to the Book of Revelation.  In that Book it is declared that all have fallen short of the glory of God.  Further more you are dead in your trespasses and sins, you were born spiritually dead.

Job:  No I was born a Human being in the Image of God, my father taught me to honor God and make sacrifice.

Calvin:  You where born guilty in the sight of God, according to the clear teaching of Scripture. 

Job: No I was born with the same potential to serve God as was any Human ever Born. 

Calvin:  You have broken God’s Law and He demands Perfection.

Job: What Law?

Calvin: The covenant Law given to Moses. 

Job: Sorry I’m drawing a blank here Calvin but maybe where there is no Law it can’t be broken. 

Calvin: You sound like a Pelagian Heretic.

Job:  No I am a servant of the God whose name I do not know, and I am blameless and upright before His eyes.

Calvin: but you need to be perfect in His eyes.

Job: Says who?

Calvin: Basically  any body whose somebody in the church world from Anselm to Me.

Job:  Sounds complicated I think I will stick with my simple faith and conscience.

Calvin:  Well broad is the way that leads to destruction. 

Job: I will stick with my God and my  proclamation of Innocence, God is mighty to save. 

Calvin: On that we agree Job.

GOD: So do I 

Satan:  I tend to agree with Calvin 

God: You would.

Love is Overrated

So I am having my Car worked on yesterday and one of the Young men behind the Counter begins to try to save my soul.

He tells me that the only thing that matters in life is do you know Jesus and are you going to Heaven?

I asked Him if Jesus knew Him and how was his life going, as it seemed to me he had a number of unresolved issues.

I began to share about the power of God’s love as demonstrated in the life of Christ and the words of His mouth.

He explained that life did not really matter because he had Jesus and Heaven was waiting for him as opposed to me I assume.

Besides he said there is more to this God thing than just Love and that the whole Love thing is overrated, the world he surmised needed some God anger and judgment.

I asked him how those things where working for him in his life and he shared that after his divorce he decided the whole love thing was Overrated.

Someone then messed up my little experiment by telling him I was a Pastor and he began to soften up a little bit, this is why I keep it on the low down I’m a Pastor when out in public.

So he asked me what I thought he should focus on in his life, as a person who was saved and going to heaven?

Love my young friend, Master Love and leave the anger and judgment to God.

Eternal Life

So Eternal Life where is it and how do I get me some? 

Here in America there are many experts on Eternal Life, with various opinions on the subject. 

Some are convinced that Eternal Life is a kind of promissory note to be redeemed in a place called Heaven after death. 

It is an object that comes into your possession when you verbalize the correct belief system, with the appropriate ceremonies to follow.

You are they say born without one little precious drop of Eternal Life, and if you don’t run into the right Person in your life with the correct information, well lets just say there’s going to be Hell to pay. 

So what does Eternal life look like and where can I find me some? 

It looks like this “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”  You see Eternal Life flows out from God and then unfolds creatively and permanently.  How about this Eternal Life looks like “and He became flesh and lived with us, the only Manifested Son of God.” Or how about this “Jesus touched her and she became whole”

Eternal Life is not a static thing or a prize to be won if you say and do the correct things.  Eternal Life holds the whole Universe together and that includes you “By the Power of His word.”  It is the binding agent or as Einstein searched for the unifying theory of all things. 

It is not a proposition to be argued and embraced by the intellect according to the doctrines of men. 

Jesus walked in it and it flowed from him like many rivers, it looks like Love, Joy, Peace and Healing.  Eternal Life flows from one who seeks God’s Kingdom here and now, and desires to share God’s vision for this earth and those made in His image. 

So where do you find this Eternal Life, because I am of the opinion that this world needs more of it, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  Jesus taught just ask and it will start within you, rivers of living waters and where it touches “life and it more abundantly.”   

Many proclaim to have this Eternal Life but their life’s do not demonstrate this creative flow that brings healing and a creative unfolding where ever it goes.  I for one need to get more connected to the God who creates places of dwelling and relationship.  “Ask and you shall find seek and the door shall be opened for you,” Jesus belongs to the whole world and eternal life is for all who desire it here and now.

God is in Control?

“God is in Control”

 I have used this buzz phrase so many times as a Pastor I hardly even give it a second thought.  The other day I was meditating on a teaching of Jesus on Prayer, where He says to Pray for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Does this imply as I think it must that God is looking for more influence in this world than He presently has?  A quick review of the story of Genesis will reveal that God is looking for a Partnership not a Dictatorship.

So is “God in Control” or is it all “Out of Control” or somewhere “In between?”  Paul teaches that the creation is groaning waiting for the full revelation of the Daughters and Sons of the Living God to manifest.

So God is in Control but not in the way we mean it, God is in control of a great revealing in which God chooses to share Control over Creation.

This is the great missed message of the Gospel, it is so much bigger than just getting a ticket to Heaven.  So stop waiting for God to be in Control or to take over what is your responsibility.  God would love to be in Control, in and through you.  GOD wants to partnership with you in the transformation of creation around you!

The true gospel is not about a great escape (Rapture) and then life in the clouds with Jesus, rather it is about a new earth where we partner with God to heal and resurrect.
