“Sometimes I Miss”

Sometimes I miss

the faith of my youth

before I was taught it was

all for naught.

Sometimes I miss

the Midnight Mass

and all its colorful pomp

and circumstance.

Sometimes I miss

the reverent

and quiet serenity.

Sometimes I miss

all that rich history

a few thousand years

provides.

Sometimes I miss

the Holy Men of quiet character

and faithful service.

Sometimes I Miss

it all and long for

the Cathedral of my

youth.

  1. That’s why I went back to it a month ago. I am now a parishioner of a contemporary rock ‘n’ soul church and an Episcopal church that follows the ancient liturgy with all rituals intact. Living out my hippie roots from the sixties hasn’t been able to silence an equal heart’s desire for contemplative traditions that focus on our holy, unfathomable God. Same God, Jesus and Spirit. Two different, yet compatible forms of worship.
